Technology Review Oct 2012 Tears

On the newsstand now is a recent shoot from the talented team at Technology Review. I got to photograph an amazing company called MC10 that is doing some amazing things with stretchable electrics. This is one of the many reasons I love being a photographer, I get to dip into a world I may otherwise never be exposed to and hang out with smart passionate people.  You can read the article by David Talbot and you can see a slide show and video of what they are doing here.

 

New Hampshire, frogs, suit, varnish

I've been a little lazy with the blog this summer, so here are a bunch of things from the last month or so. Got to spend some time in NH at a cabin/house we have been lucky to stay in for the past few years. Got to spend some time with family that I don't get to see but once a year. I feel like I crammed a weeks worth of swimming and eating into 6 days. My camera spent much of the week tucked in it's case, but here are a few photos.

 I also got to meet with some friends to go for a ride in Western MA and VT for a couple days. I have been spending so much time with tiny old motorcycles the past few years that this recent to me 87 Cagiva Alazzurra 650 feels pretty big and modern. (Note the classy blue tarp. It's not going to win any beauty contests, but I had a pretty big smile in my helmet.) Here I am at the Quabbin Res.

                          

Butterfield and a blog milestone.

 These are recent outtakes from a shoot at Butterfield in Providence RI with store owner and all around cool person Mindy Matouk.

I started this blog almost 5 years ago exactly and I am about to reach 10,000 hits. I know that isn't much, an average of about 5.5 hits per day. Compared that to my friend Zach Vitale who started One Tiny Hand who within a week had about 600,000 hits and its a drop in the bucket really, but like so many things about running a small business, every little bit counts. Thanks to everyone who has sent me a comment, email etc. It helps to know people are checking it out.

Spring Motogiro

The Spring Motogiro came and went this past weekend and it was a great time as usual. The weather was perfect for the 120 riders. The little Moto Guzzi finally went for the whole weekend (thanks to Pete Talabach). It wasn't fast but it did what it was supposed to. The USCRA is a great group and I can't believe they can make this thing happen.

Yes it's long, yes it's choppy but it has some fun stuff in there. It looks like we are going a zillion MPH but I'm pretty sure I never broke 55 on the Slowdola.

Making a new portfolio

My old book just came back to me after being gone for a month or so. Recently I have changed my website and my logo and I was about to just fix up my old book and send it out but I decided to just scrap it and reprint the thing. With lots of help from James Weinberg we came up with an idea to silkscreen covers and use wire binding to give it a "not so precious" yet handmade feel that is nice to hold. James is a very talented designer and is good at taking my half baked ideas and making them into something that works. These should be ready to send out in a week or so but I wanted to post some photos of the process. Thanks James.
